For those of you planning to vote — let’s meet! I will be in the audience at tonight’s talk on gender voting patterns and what they mean for America’s future at the Visiting Nurses Association located on 175 South Street, from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm.
Women are an important engine in Morristown’s social and political life. I recently asked Morristonians what they thought of the race for mayor and Town Council, and the Democratic primary coming up on 6 June. More women than men said they were planning to vote. I also asked what issues are important to them. Their answers reflect what we have in our town today, and I agreed with them that we should protect these:
- An environment where local businesses can thrive.
- A place where young people can get the best education.
But they were also exasperated by home expenses being too high, taxes being too steep, and the town growing too fast with too many cars on the road.
I am familiar with these issues from 20 years on the Town Council, and I wish I could tell all worriers out there to trust me – we are working on it and we’re on the right path! There may be some growing pains, but we’ll get there.
Having said that, I would really like to hear from men and young voters ages 18-44 years. I hope to meet some of them at tonight’s talk — so if you’re an active woman voter in Morristown, please bring with you the men and young people in your life. Admission is free and open to all. I would be happy to meet you.
